Rem Conway

HE MAY still be in his teens but Rem Conway has already achieved more than many who are twice his age since he?s already written his first book and set up his own production company. And just to keep the momentum going, he?s about to stage his own Jamaican-style comedy at 'The Drum' next month, which he has written, directed, funded and produced by himself.

The first thing you notice on meeting Rem is he fizzes with energy, talking excitingly about his next project, his hopes and dreams.

His first book Do You Feel Me ...The Mind Unleashed is a cleverly put together collection of short stories that he first wrote on his phone, plus a touching tale of a young blind man who is bullied throughout his childhood for being different.

?The first stories came to me in a real rush so the only way I could get them down was on my phone,? explains 18-year-old Conway, who is a graduate of the Young Gifted Brum (YGB) and Identity drama school based at The Drum arts centre in Aston, Birmingham.

?The mind has so many stories running through it, but people don?t usually put them down on paper,? said Rem, who went to Hamstead Hall School and Cadbury College.

?There?s a story for everyone as the topics cover struggle, spirituality, positivity and inspiration. One of my main aims behind the book is to encourage more males to get involved in reading and also writing their own material.?

Conway, who is from a family of eight, launched his own production company, Graft Productions, when he was just 17 and has high hopes for making it more widely known.

A recent winner of the art award at the Celebrating Youth Excellence Awards 2012, he is now busy with rehearsals for 'Uncle Ben?s' three-night run at The Drum from December 20 - 22. All performances start at 7.30pm.

?It?s all about what happens when Uncle Ben invites his family round for dinner and all the problems and issues they bring with them,? explains Conway, ? Even though I say it myself, it?s pretty funny.?
